Performing in Greenville, SC

When we arrived at the Artisphere Festival to set up on Saturday, I was taken aback by how much each street reminded me of Higuera Street, which is the main strip in San Luis Obipso, CA where Farmer's Market in held every Thursday night. I was pleasantly surprised that Greenville also reminded me so much of Boulder, CO, a town that we miss dearly. Seeing Greenville gave us hope that there are indeed other cities that know good food, the importance of bike trails, and the value of the arts and keeping things green all around the city. And to think that this town is just 3 hours away from where we live now in South Carolina. It's quite a treat.

We did 6 sets throughout the day on Saturday. The performers were Julianna Hane of Revolve Aerial Dance and Jordan Andersen of AerialFit. Clayton also came to help out, doing some pre-show handstands to help draw the crowd in, as well as be our monkey for set-change-ups. Later in the evening, I got up on the fabric to do some improvise just to have some fun. People loved it.Even when I was doing simple poses and just spinning around, they were clapping-which almost confused me at first. I thought something else must be going on because I doubted they were clapping for be spinning in the knot. My favorite moment of the day was hearing a small child squeal with delight as a I swung as hard as I come back and forth and then surprised everyone by letting go and running off stage. The kids in the audience thought it was hilarious. (And then everyone else thought it was funny that the kids were squealing, so everyone was happy.)

My hair isn't even past my shoulders - it's so short that I thought there was nothing fancy I could do (I'm so used to having long hair to play with, but I cut it all off last year). However, a few days before the show, I had the idea to just start trying things. I started this funky look with two ponytails, one high and one low and then it evolved into the up-do you will see in the pictures. I had to cut my costume because the bell-bottom legs were too long and I was so happy because I could use the extra material in my hair. I loved it. I no longer am scared of having nothing to do with my short short hair.

Here's some pictures of our performance day. (You'll also get to see a picture of me rockin the mic with Naomi.)
